Usually chutneys are very simple to make and are best side dish for idli/dosa.Onions are all time available ingredient in the kitchen storage and making chutney out of it is simple too. Here I have shared a very simpler way of preparing onion chutney which I would choose to prepare within the time I make dosas/idlis. This chutney does not require any tempering too. Onion -2 big sized
Dry red chilli -2
Tamarind -pea sized
Salt -1/4 tsp
Oil -1 tsp

  1. Heat oil in a pan,fry chopped onion and red chilly till they are golden brown.
  2. Allow it to cool and add tamarind,salt and grind to a fine paste.
  3. Serve with dosa or idli of your choice.

Onion chutney

  • If you require, add tempering of mustard and curry leaves.
  • Cut the onions in big pieces.
  • This onion chutney would serve as better side dish for millet dosa varieties.
