As stated in the earlier posts turkey berry or Sundakkai is found to have more nutritional benefits for human body. They protects and maintains the normal functioning of nerves and consuming atleast 4 times in a week helps in controlling the diabetes. This can be used in cooking either as in fresh form or dried one. Here I have used the fresh form of vegetable which supplies the complete nutrients. This recipe of curry is cooked with tamarind and suits excellent as a side dish for rice.

Sundakkai Kuzhambu
 
 
Ingredients:
 
Tamarind -1 Amla size
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
Oil – 3 -4 tbsp
 
For Tempering :
Oil – 1 tsp
Mustard -1/4 tsp
Curry leaves – few
 
To fry and grind:
Shallots -1/2 cup
Curry leaves -1 stick
Dry red chilies -3
Pepper -1/4 tsp
Jeera/cumin seeds -1/2 tsp
Dhania seeds -1 tsp
Dhania/coriander powder – 2 -3 tsp
Grated coconut -1/4 cup
 
Method:
 1. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in pan, fry shallots, dry red chillies and curry leaves.
 2. Once they become translucent add pepper, jeera, dhania and fry well.
 3. After the aroma comes add the grated coconut and dhania powder and fry well in low flame.
 4. Once all the spices gets blended together, allow it to cool down and grind them to a fine paste.
 5. Now heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan, add cleaned Turkey berry and fry well.
 6. Saute until they are half cooked/fried. Meanwhile wash and soak tamarind and squeeze juice out of it.
 7. At this stage add the tamarind juice and let the vegetable to get cooked along with it for about 8 minutes in low flame.
 8. At this stage add the grinded paste.
 9. Add adequate water(2 cups app.) turmeric powder, salt, close the lid and allow it to boil well until we get the consistency of curry.
 10. Finally transfer to a serving bowl and fry the ingredients to temper and add to it.
 11. Serve hot with Rice or with a combination of curd to get the real authentic taste.
 
Fresh Turkey Berry Curry
Note:
  • If you are not having Shallots, use 1 full big onion chopped in large pieces.
  • do not fry the vegetable too much as they become crispy which will make them lose their original taste.
  • You can also reduce the oil amount according to your health concerns.
