Lemon Rasam – Lemon Rasam is a simple and a traditional recipe. Rasam is the authentic dish of South India which can be termed as soothing soup. The sour taste of lime garnished with the flavors of coriander leaves and pinch of asafoetida gives a perfect aroma. Lemon rasam would be better choice when you wanted to prepare a quick recipe or a dish for your rice after your step in the home.

Lemon Rasam

Ingredients of Lemon Rasam:

  • Lemon- 1/2
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Green chilli- 1 crushed
  • Garlic – 2 crushed with skin
  • Spice powders (turmeric, chilli, corainder) – 1/2 tsp each
  • Asafoetida – 1 or 2 pinches
  • Salt – 1 tbsp
  • Oil – 1/4 tsp
  • Mustard – 1/4 tsp
  • Curry leaves – few
  • Coriander leaves – to garnish
  • Red chilli -1
  • Peppercorns – 4-5
  • Cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • Tomato – 1/2

Method of preparation of Lemon Rasam:

  1. Heat oil : Add mustard, pepper, jeera, chilli,curry leaves, asafoetida, tomato
  2. Cook mushy + add water + spice powders + crushed Garlic & green chilli
  3. Add salt and boil
  4. Squeeze lemon juice and put off flame
  5. Garnish coriander leaves

Step-wise making of Lemon Rasam :

  1. Set in all your ingredients ready
  2. Heat 1/2 tsp of oil and add mustard
  3. Add Jeera/cumin seeds, curry leaves, peppercorns, red chilli,
  4. Then add a pinch of Asafoetida powder
  5. Next add finely chopped tomatoes
  6. Fry in low flame until soft and mushy
  7. Pour about 3-4 cups of water
  8. Add in crushed garlic and chilli
  9. Pour the spice powders.
  10. Add salt and increase the flame
  11. Let it boil until raw smell leaves off (5-8 minutes)
  12. Now take the pieces of lemon and deseed them
  13. Squeeze the lemon juice and reduce the flame
  14. Add coriander leaves and put off the flame
  15. Transfer to a serving bowl

Note:

  • Do not boil after adding lemon juice as they tend to become bitter.
  • Adjust the spice powders according to your requirment
  • You can also make a puree of tomato and add instead frying
  • Actual recipe of lemon rasam doesnt require garlic. Just because I love flavor of garlic I add 2 cloves
